Microsoft’s workforce cared deeply about sustainability—but many employees lacked clarity around the company’s environmental commitments and how their own work contributed to larger goals.
Working within the “It’s in Our Nature” platform, I led design for a global, multi-year initiative to align sustainability messaging across all internal channels. As Senior Art Director, I oversaw a wide range of creative outputs—including editorial reports, digital signage, environmental graphics, on-site photography, video production, and thousands of pieces of internal social collateral—ensuring that each piece reflected Microsoft’s evolving goals and resonated with audiences worldwide. Our work brought coherence to complex ideas and helped foster a culture of sustainability within one of the world’s largest organizations.
As a global technology leader, Microsoft engineers solutions that raise the bar for sustainability, a massive all-electric kitchen at its Puget Sound HQ for example. Capable of serving 1,000+ meals per day with all the flavor but almost none of the carbon that gas kitchens produce, the new facility offered lessons — and stories — worth sharing. We helped get the word out by conceiving, writing, and designing a magazine-style report that offers the roadmap to gas-free facilities for commercial kitchens around the world, as well as contributing to a broader social campaign.
